I've done it a number of times. Well organized and fun race. The swim is in a small reservoir with the buoys set in a triangular course. The lake is usually pretty warm so you won't need a wetsuit. (Since you're right next door to the deactivated Rancho Seco reactor, you'll wonder just why the water is so warm. Don't worry: you'll stop glowing after a couple of days.) It's a 100m run over grass to the transition area.

The bike is out-and-back on a gently rolling country road. It's pretty exposed so wind can be a factor.

The run is on a fire road so it's pretty easy on the knees but it can be dusty and uneven, so you'll want to watch your step. I'd recommend taking the time to put on socks since it's easy to get dirt or a stone in your shoe on the run. I think they usually have a water station at the half-way point of the run.

It can be really hot and sunny out there so make sure to drink well on the bike and wear sunscreen. It's a good race. I can't do the June race this year but I'm going to try for the July one. Good luck!

If you hear the sirens, the nuke plant at the swim start is going to blow :D
