All I am looking at possibly picking up some older bikes. They have steel frames and have some rust on them. I am looking to probably get the rust off and then paint them. If at all possible I was thinking that I would use some spray paint. While I do not want to spend alot on these I would like them to look decent. Are there any good quality glossy spray paints that you would recommend. Powder coating would probably be too expensive for what I am doing. Just trying to tinker and restore a couple of bikes.

Having just finished painting my bike not once but twice in the past month, I recomend you leave it alone. If you must I recomend you pick up Premier. It's PPG in a spray can, use lauquer, I, me, myself find it to be more durable than enamel but to each their own. Read the can, follow the directions exactly. In fact read all three cans carefully and obey. (3 primer, paint, clearcoat) This is assuming you have removed ALL rust from frame. Some would say that depending on the severity of the rust, you won"t ever get rid of it, it will come back. Have fun. So I can be a jerk too, Use the SEARCH function!!!! Might not be a bad idea, I did before I started mine, it's how I found this site.

To add to that,
When you have large rust areas, remove what you can then spray with Extend coating before priming.
