Well i see often that manufacturers make claims like "such and such a claim is coated with chemical x to resist corrosion better than the leading brand". So i got bored yesterday and decided to take two links from my PC-69 (the chain was too long when i got it so i had to remove a few links). I submerged them entirely in a bag of water and after 28 hours i am surprised to say that there is indeed not very much rust. Some around the areas of movement as i suspected. Small specks of it especially around the pins. I also put two links of my old 7 speed KMC chain, this chain has at laset 50% more rust on it. Ide like to see if i can get two links of a wipperman chain. I know they say they have special corrosion resisting modifications or something, i want to see if it beats the PC69 at resisting the rust to merit its price which is double that of the PC69. Anybody care to try?

Riding in Houston is a good way to test chains for rust. When the wind comes from the east, it brings in poisonous, corrosive chemicals from the oil and chemical operations on the eastside. When the wind blows from the south, it bring salt-laden air from the Gulf of Mexico.

ONE chain, the chain I put on my beach cruiser, has been "rustproof". It ought to be, as its advertised named is the "Rust Buster". It has a special "rust-proof" coating. My favorite chains are the Sachs-Sedis chains, but they are far from rustproof. But, the "Rust Buster" is sold only for one speed bikes.
