Hey racergirl you can get those bars to sit lower. Basically start by putting the aero bar extension attached to the handlebar but so it is underneath, but still pointing up. Then I believe the pads will have to be on opposite bars, you will most likely need a small spacer under the pads. Here is a link to how someone else did it. I did it myself and love it except my pads sit behind the handlebar and basically flush with them.
PM me and I'll take more pictures of my set up. NO need to buy new bars, if you want to shorten them your LBS could cut the extensions.
