Tickets bought, so I am 100% in on the Horsey hundred. Get your beer hand ready! I wanted to know if you guys were riding Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, or just Saturday. We need to exchange some info here or on BROL so we can meet up, especially since we're going to be doing some maintenance on the bike I'm buying from Don.
I'm also CONSIDERING buuying the velokraft adjustable tiller from Dana. I like the thought of having a lower angle so I can see unobstructed over the wires. What do you guys think?
Also, I need to pick up a computer for the bike, so I wondered if there was anything you two especially liked.

cool, sounds like we will be all set then to ride. We'll ride as much as possible I'm sure. I think we are leaving friday morning to get there so will be riding saturday and sunday for sure. Maybe a bit friday evening if it isn't too late. Don should have his bike completely rideable for you. You may want to check with Don on the pedal situation though to make sure you will have the right cleats on your shoes or if you have to buy some pedals beforehand. The adjustable tiller is nice. Love mine. Don did a good job of making a tiller also for his. I'm sure he has pics posted already.

I'll be bringing my own pedals. I use clipless on the upright, but I've never used them on the recumbent, so I'm a little intimidated by the thought, so I'll likely just bring my platforms.
Sounds like we could use friday night for tune-ups and have some good rides Saturday and Sunday then.
I'm going to see if I can get the tiller into my budget then.

I'd bring both and maybe friday night you could try out the clipless pedals on the baron. 100 miles on platform pedals might be a little tough on the feet. I would learn friday night real quick like. It really isn't any different than using clippless on an upright. Would be bad if your feet fell off the platform pedal when moving........especially down a hill.

Good point. Mostly I'm just concerned about the fact that I've not been on a recumbent in over a month, and I'm concerned about what's going to happen when I got up a hill. I'd hate to scratch the darn thing to hell before even getting to realy enjoy it! :)

Just butting in here - you won't scratch the bike, it's too low for that. My first ride on a semi-low bike (SpeedMachine, 16" seat-height) I was toodling around in a parking lot, a van came in off the street too fast and didn't see me, cut me off. I had to stop hard, still clipped in (he stopped too). I Arte-Johnsoned to the right, catching myself easily on my hand. I just leaned on my hand until I could unclip, get situated and start again. This was a test-ride, I had about 5 minutes on the bike, 50 miles previous on a Giro the year before, no other 'bent riding, but I'm used to riding clipless. I'm also 5'9" and short-limbed, and your seat-height IIRC is about 10" or 12" so If I can do it so can you.
Absolutely go clipless - you'll regret it on those hills if you don't! (and wear gloves ;^)
Jealous, waiting on my Tiger,
John
Careful sticking out your hand to stop a fall. The most common fracture of the lower arm (Colle's) results from that type of move. If you are really doing an Artie Johnson and slowly tipping to one side the risk is lower but still...
...since we're going to be doing some maintenance on the bike I'm buying from Don...
Did you get your Velocraft?
Better to get used to the clipless pedals now. You do NOT want your leg bent back under your but because your foot slipped off of a platform pedal. OOO the thought gave me shivvers.
Where is the Horsey Hundred held?

Actually, I would think that foot suck would be less likely on a lowracer, because of the proximity to the ground and the seatback angle, it's hard to get a foot planted hard enough to get into trouble. Unless you run over your foot with the front wheel, which would almost require trying to do so. Take it from me, though; holding your feet that high without the benefit of a clip system gets very tiring.
Horsey Hundred is located at the Georgetown College (NOT Georgetown University!) campus, in Georgetown KY, which is just north of Lexington. For anyone within driving range, you probably already know that this ride comes highly recommended. For those who do it, our group of 6 lowracers should be easy enough to find. Pick us out and say hi!
