I've got a few weeks before my LBS even gets a Stumpjumper in (not even sure he will get one in my size yet), and part of me would still like to build a bike frame-up. They still have an Airborne Liberator frame/fork that I can get for $350 and i'm wondering how nice of a bike I could put together for the price of the Stumpjumper (appx $1100)? Now I know the RockShox Pilot fork doesn't match up to the Fox on the Stumpy, but it sounds like the Airborne frame would be a good starting point. If this was your project, what components/accessories would you go with keeping in mind the $1100 limit?

Frame/Fork is $350, so that leaves $750 give or take a few bucks for everything else. Could a full XT group fit within that limit, or would SRAM be the way to go? Where should I save money, and where should I spend as much as possible (wheels?)

Thanks for any help!

I don't think you could do it and be anywhere near the level of performance you get on a Stumpjumper, honestly. Right off the bat you are looking at a low end Rockshox fork vs. a $500 Fox fork.
