Mountain Biking - 'Sqaure' or 'Round' frames?

This must sound like a stupid topic to post...but i'm sure everyone has a favourite.

My question is, do you prefer bikes that have 'round' frame? Or do you prefer those with a 'Square' frame (going from round to sqaure)? Me, I prefer the 'Square' ones, but i know a lot of people who say they look stupid and like the 'round' ones better.

Its got nothing to do with the quality of the frame...just the look. The Hard Rock and Fire Mountain are two great examples...

Square definately, and they really airn't square, they are rectangular, to be laterally (i think) stronger, but they loose a little bit of side to side strength, which is not needed near as much anyways.

I have one of both, my Fuji has a diamond and my Mongoose has a round. Both are good but I like the Fuji frame a bit more.

Yeh well they all vairy, so i classify those ones as 'Square' in its simplest term.

err, laterally means side-to-side. Maybe you meant vertically?

As far as I remember from high school physics and geometry, rectangular shapes should bear both lateral and vertical forces better than round ones, but the round ones are better with torsional forces. But either way, I think the hardrock and bikes like it are super hot. But then I also love the look of the GF Wahoo etc.

Coming from a road perspective, at first mountain bikes were kind of chunky and bloated looking. But now I realize, road bikes are like supermodels: they look good in photos, and are fun to own. Mountain bikes are like real girls (or guys, if that's your thing): they are fun to ride, and feel good.

The specialized frames look nice with the squares, but there are also plenty of round-tubed frames that look awesome.

Laterally is side to side, longitudinally is front to back.

I love the Evil Imperial and its straight square tube toptube/seatstay.

yeah, what if...I like those azonic steelhead's they are nice, but I was just making a general statement. the square stuff just looks more serious, and therefore more freeride-ish.

I love the look of monocoque frames, like The shockwave 9.5, then oval or rectangle.

I like the roundness, i know on my own frame the tubes get much narrower at the BB area, and larger at the headtube. I like the round. On my last frame it has tear drop tubing, that i liked very much

i like the round frames they are soo sleek i feel so unco on the square frames whats nxt make a poll about square or round wheels.........heheheh somone do it

This is my new frame, i prefer the way this frame looks over any other, its got these bumps at the top, and then goes into a round profile down to the bottom bracket, and then square at the chain and seatstays...
