Sorry if I'm being redundant to some of the earlier threads, but thought maybe people can pitch in sales or deals they maybe aware of right now...

I'm looking for an inexpensive combination of clipless pedals and shoes. I have a road bike, but would use this shoes mainly for my commute, so figured mountain shoes are more comfortable if I end up walking a mile to the train station today after my bike went down due to some mechanical disagreements between us (is that true?).

Both the Diadora's and Exustars are on sale right now at Nashbar... Are they worth it? Should I still go for a road shoe? (some reviews said the diadora's have a very soft sole)

I'm planning to get the Nashbar ATB pedal again for it's versatility versus the road bike pedals (is that true?)

On the other side, should I just stick to toe clips (my shoe right now seems to be too large for them, so I'm thinking of getting a more streamlined walking shoe maybe?) for commuting?

just ordered the Geko with the Nashbar ATB - Nashbar has 20% off if you buy 5 items, then use the coupon from this forum for an additional 10% off.

Got the shoes for 14 bucks and the pedals for 14 bucks... I hope they fit.

I have Exustar (SM600 - not on sale) that I bought last November. Great for commuting with my Egg Beater pedals. I'd recommend the brand.
I'm also looking at Diadora to replace my other pair of Lake MX100 commuter shoes.

I have a pair of Exustar shoes. They are extremely comfortable and worth the money (though they are cheap!).

I agree with the posts above, I have the nashbar brand shoes (forte) which one can only assume are basically the performance brand shoes with a different brand name on them and they are very comfortable.

I have the Diadora Pablano H20's - water resistance, walkable, year-round shoe. Well worth the $160...The only pair I've ever had...bought 1 pair 4yrs ago. Athough they get a workout 5-6X/week these shoes look brand new. They're comfortable enough to wear all day.

Whatever shoes you get, be sure there's pleny of expansion room in them for socks or swelling etc.
