The question is a little too vague. It depends on which model of bike you're talking about. Both manufacturers make great bikes. It just depends on how each model is spec'd.

well, it's hard to be so general. you mean comparing the full suspension XC models?
Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC vs Giant NRS (i think)... i choose the Specialized b/c i like the design better and i think it's a little lighter, but i think you can find the Giant for less -- i have the middle of the line Comp (XC, Comp, Pro, Marathon) and it's lighter than all the Giants i've seen...
otherwise it's too hard to generalize i think. I personally like Specialized a lot but Giant makes good bikes too

I ride a Giant NRS and I'm very pleased with the decision. However, I could be happy with an FSR, too. The FSR is probably a more supple over the little bumps, but the NRS doesn't need a rear lockout. My NRS weights 25 lbs. in race-ready form with pedals.
Specialized, Giant, Trek, Cannondale, among others, make good bicycles in every price range.

I looked at both bikes. I thought the Specialized was higher quality, although I just bent the crank last night and I'm not too happy about that. (On my Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC)
Giants are cheaper because the frames are made en masse overseas. One of the big turnoffs for me about the NRS series is that the rear shock is a Rock Shox SID custom job. Say you want to upgrade to a Fox...good luck. I respect Giant in that they're frames are solid. I don't respect Giant in that they really aren't innovative at all and skimp wherever they can.
