Hi everyone I am new to this forum I live in Sydney Australia.
I have a question what kind of training or things can be done when you go on a holiday without your bike. I have been riding 250-300km a week and I will be going on a 2week holiday to tropical North Queensland. Apart from beach running I dont want to lose all the hard work of cycling in those 2 weeks.
Any suggestions?

2 weeks is not so long. i just had a 2 1/2 week vacation back to the US and i mulled over it and then didn't bring my bike b/c it would have been too much hassle.

yes, running is usually about the best and easiest choice since you can always bring running shoes and shorts or run on the beach.

i also try to do other activities - on my last vacation i did take my rollerblades along and got in a lot of basic exercise as well as renting bikes one days. even lots of walking is better than nothing.

you can also work in sit-ups, pushups or other workouts. on my last vacation i made a visit to my sister's workout gym.

unless you're a serious racer, 2 weeks being off the bike and running and walking or wahtever shouldn't hurt your training too bad -- just don't sit on your ass all day and eat crappy the whole time -- i also reduced my caloric intake just to be safe so i didn't gain much fat - probably overworrying on my part (i have less than 10% body fat although i am 31)

i also always try if possible to do a really hard ride the day before i fly - sometime not possible b/c you're also so busy -- but this way i'm tired and relaxed on the flight which is good plus i maintain my fitness and minimize the time off the bike a little --- i.e. i would have had to take 1-2 days off the bike anyway after the hard ride --- if you do this and then ramp back up the day after you get back, in 2 weeks you shouldn't miss much

i have my first post vacation MTB race this coming weekend and i feel pretty good although not in top form from my time off (did a 2 great training rides in the 7 days since i've been back - last weekend with 1550m of vertical)

Does where you're staying have an exercise room? Get on the stationary bike or treadmill there.

i do isometrics. bend at your knees with your hands on your head. hold it. and hold it. and hold it. (bend ending midway with the technique of a squat) feel the burn.
