Touring - panaracer pasela width

Is there anybody out there who knows how to get a panaracer pasela in the correct width? My KHS milano tandem came with non-tourguard paselas in 700x28. But the actual width by caliper was 24.2mm, and indeed the ride was way too harsh for cracked asphalt on minnesota roads. I read somewhere that paselas size small, so I ordered a set of pasela tourguards in 700x35, hoping that the tires would measure about 32mm. Well, when those came in, they measured 35.1 mm, which doesn't leave enough clearance for my fenders.

I spoke to a great tech. support guy at nashbar.com. He knew all about the panaracer sizing issues, and explained to me that while old paselas are mislabled, and newer paselas are correctly labled, their shipments from the panaracer factory contain mixed old and new stock, and there's no way for them at nashbar to sort them out.

How can I get paselas that measure 32mm wide?

The Pasela's I bought last year measured the same as the "advertised" width, something that is rare with tires sold in the USA.

If your LBS does not stock them, contact Harris Cyclery...they generally stock a good variety of tires in various sizes, included "unpopular" sizes.

Old thread, but exactly the question I want to ask.

I would like a tire with about 28 mm actual width. Should I order the 28 mm Pasela TG (folding) or should I go for the 32 mm version?

I run the Pasela TG Protex in 28 and they serve me well.

Panaracer Pasela is a quality tyre, but one thing that wired is it seems to narrower than other tyre in the same size.

I'm using Pasela 35mm but the rolling resistance is so low, feeling doesn't like use 35mm at all. :O

Thanks for the replies, but I was thinking about the actual width of the tire compared to what's printed on the tire. I have already decided on the Paselas because of how they look (and how they perform of course).

The actual measured width of a tire varies with the width of the rim on which it is installed.

I don`t think most people worry about a tire being exactly XX mm wide, but I guess maybe you`ve got some kind of clearance issues or something. Since they`re a fairly popular tire, maybe there`s a local shop with one or both those sizes in stock? If so, after you explain what you want, they might let you mount one on your rim there in the store to see. Otherwise, I`d go with Harris, as mentioned in response to the first poster. In an apparent dyslexic episode last year, I mistakenly ordered 23mm tires rather than the 32s that I wanted from Harris (they happened to be Paselas) and didn`t notice until I had already mounted one. When I called Harris to see about exchanging the one that I hadn`t yet mounted, the guy told me I could even exchange the mounted one too! To top it off, they paid the return shipping, so I only had one extra shipping fee added to my bill rather than two. IMO, service like that is WAY above and beyond.
