Bike Paths at Night -lighting

Now that summer is here, I was wouldering if anyone has been on Capital City Trail at night. In the far part of the trail by Oregon and Fitchburig, there are no lights, and it's mostly woods. I have rode it after the sun has set. Kind of freakle, no nosie, people, light. I have a NiteRider, but it's still freakle. Anyone else been on this trail in Mad Town, or some trail like it? I have been looking for a trail light, so when I'm on the road I can use my NiteRider (only about an hour run time) and then something else so I can enjoy the ride at night. I have killed also most every BikePlanet light I have bought. The help would be great!

Riding at night on bike paths can be problematic, as there is no white line on the right side of the pathway, and the pathway and grass kind of blend together, causing you to run off the path. I may just need a better light.

Dont do it man---The trail is freaky at night--especially with all of those turns and bends---i suppose you could rig up some sort of flood light to your bike if you wanted to though. Also, the part where the capitol city trail ends and the SW commuter trail ends (or vice versa depending on your direction) [right after/before the beltline] is a rather sketchy part of town--sometimes the trail is blocked at night there.

Ya, I know I live down there, lol. Keep above 25 mph all the time it helps. A flood light would help, a HID like how bight are those?

A head\helmet mounted light works better for shining around the bend before you turn into it.

Using a HID helmet mounted light will allow you to go about anywhere at night that you would go in daylight. The helmet mount allows you to see on corners better than the bar mount. I go way up into the woods on trails where there is no sign of light except the moon and I never had a problem. I've seen a lot of animals out like deer, skunks, and a lot of rabbits who tend to run in front of me, no wolves yet or bears so I am lucky. It can be creepy I guess, but I just like it. My buddies think I'm crazy for going out late at night, but I do enjoy it so much and my work schedule of makes it tough to go in the day a lot of times. I suggest carrying a cell phone and some pepper spray when out on the dark trails.
