Scarred knees are good, but the pain you get before hand kills like a mother, Id rather had Pads I think, plus, they're confidence inspiring, but i thought you did XC Troie?

I do but there arent any knee/shin pads designed for XC. I saw the 661 veggie wraps but I need something to cover my knee too.
EDIT: Actually these dont look too bad:

but why do you need knee and shin gaurds with clipless pedals doing XC?

Yeah, if you ride XC and clipless it's going to be pretty hard to get a pedal spin into the shins...

I can think of reasons. I actually don' know many clipless riders who ride without the gaurds. Out here anyways.

Never seen anyone riding with clipless and shinguards.
I've only had a pedal whack my shin once...wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

troie, of course I wasn't serious, like 5% of the stuff I say is serious.
Shin guards would be kinda nice to have for trails with lots of trees near them... my leg got smacked by one the other day, hurt almost as much as a pedal hitting it.
And of course my knee wouldn't have gotten gouged how it did last month if I had some of those on. I think I'll start wearing a helmet before I start wearing knee pads, though - lol

Shoes: No (two velcro straps is not enough for me)
Pedals: No (never tried Times, satisfied with CB & SPD)
Roach FR: Yes. I have some, but only use them when riding the lift or shuttling. I base my armor needs upon the type of riding I'll be doing, not upon what pedals I'm using.
Shin guards arent designed to protect you from just pedals. Shin guards are designed to protect your shins from everything. There is such a thing as rocks, cactii, brush, boulders, etc.. What, you think people wear shin guards just to protect themselves from pedals? muahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Last week I fell and smacked my knee hard on a rock. I couldnt move my leg for 20 minutes. Now If I had clipless and bailed out but still hit the rock, I would have lucked out if I had knee/shin armor on to avoid possible fractures and severe lacerations. Id like to save my knees/shins for future use ya know.
Ive decided not to go clipless...
