Hi,

I just wanted to write and thank everyone here for creating such a warm and inviting place to learn more about bicycle touring. I just registered yesterday, but I have already learned so much by reading through some of the old and new threads. What I appreciate the most is that the macho egoism that sometimes seems inherent in these kind of forums is absent here. Everyone here seems real friendly and eager to help!

I am currently preparing to embark on a destination-less journey within the next few weeks or so. I have a general idea of which direction I will be headed, but no set itinerary or goals. I'll just see where the wind takes me I guess. This will be my first solo-tour. Many many years ago in junior high a group of us did a very small 150-mile 3-night tour through the outlying rural areas. The many fond memories from that short trip and the unbelievable urge to just get away from it all, has motivated me to finally take my own trip.

If I have any questions I will be sure to post them, but first I just wanted to start off by saying thanks...

Peace,
fulan

You're welcome.

:D

Thank Joe Gardner- he's the one who started up this site! Thank him quick, he's on his way out for a destinationless world tour soon...

What a wonderful idea - a destinationless ride.
I hope you are going to post some info on where you eventually go so that the rest of us touring tragics (currently confined to working to save up for the next trip) can read about it and get our travel fix. :D :D :D

Good luck with your plans. As you already know, there are a lot of experienced touring cyclists here, and we all have respect for each other's achievements, no matter how small or large they might be.

And just between you and me... I am heading off for a similar destinationless tour in July. Mabe our paths will cross...

NOOB!

Just kidding. Welcome! The reason I liked this forum to begin with is the non-competitive atmosphere combined with knowledgeable advice.

Keep it up, kids.
