Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - I propose a new sticky.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It seems like not a day goes by recently where at least one thread on this forum gets hijacked by somebody getting all angsty about "hipsters." Could we have a thread so people can just get it all out of their system in one place and the rest of us can go back to making fun of each other and talking about pie? I'm as patient as the next guy and I understand the need to vent about your "culture" or whatever you want to call it being coopted, but this is getting ridonkulous.

I porpoise a culling of said "hipsters" with sharpened hockey sticks. Or perhaps we could round them up and force them to play a futuristic game of rollerball to the death for the amusement of the big mac masses.

There is no such thing as hipsters. Marketers and ad agencies use it now to describe the "downtown kids" and messengers use it to describe anyone who rides a track bike that is not a messenger. Kill this thread before it even begins.

Hipsters are real. I almost hit one on a steamroller on Friday night who apparently didn't know how to stop. Besides, I essentially am one.
That's beside the point, though. I propose a new sticky for the proposition of new stickies.

Apparently some are not taking this suggestion in the humorous light in which it was intended.

How about a fashion sticky? I've always wondered if my clipless shoes really went with my **** jeans very well, but I've never felt that there was a good place to ask.

All you hipsters need to shut the **** up. Actually, if you live in a city it's no sin to know what's up in your town. And that's really what it means to be a hipster. It means you are 'hip" enough to pay attention to your surrondings and aprecciate them. What annoys me is ignorant arrogance, which I guess is highly ironic when displayed by someone trying to pass themselves off as hip, but is certainly not unique to any group. Take a minute and think about the hard-working people who are making all the cool, fun things happen. You know, setting up shows, races, parties, cultural events, ect. Let's give them credit instead of slagging off the vapid ones who emulate them.

This thread strikes me as a terrible mistake. But those pictures are awesome! all you are missing is the ipod sock collection (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=M9720G/A). Comes as a full set, one for every official ipod marketing campaign colour!
Instead of this arguably terrible idea, there should be one that says "EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT IROs AND BIANCHI PISTAS HERE."

I had a dream that all posts talking about how Team Puma equals the apocalypse or maybe not because they earned it or how hipsters in the mission walk their track bikes with their asian girlfriends or how hipsters in Williamsburg like PBR or how fixed gear is getting popular so get over it already were in one handy thread that I could blissfully never read. It was a beautiful dream. Alas...
This thread wasn't supposed to be that sticky. In a perfect world, I would never read that sticky. What if there was a thread that wasn't actually a thread... it was just me talking about what the thread would be about?

Last time I saw the '****' label was on a sweatshirt on a guy sleeping in a doorway. The rise and fall of corporate labels.
OOOOH! Does anybody remember those sticky spider things that were made of some weird rubber that you would get it wet and throw it at a wall and it would crawl down it? Or was that just me and my bad punctuation and lack of proper sentence structure?

I remember those! I'm just trying to remember where I always got them. I want to say either as a prize at the dentist or at ShowBiz Pizza, back before it became Chuck-E-Cheeze. To hijack the thread completely, does anyone else have really bizarre childhood memories of that ******** WEIRD animatronic band thing?
