Mountain Biking - What's the ultimate Mountain Bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
What would be your ultimate Mountain Bike?
For me it would have to be either a Merlin Extralight with Pace Forks, XTR kit and Spin Wheels, or a Trek Team Issue 9900, with loads of Titanium goodness.
How's about you?
Rich :)
the best mountain CYCLE has got to be the DM Vortex..........it's not really a bike, but i say it's the best.
that is all
gnein
P.S. try and quess what exactly it is, since it's not really a bike.....
actually the hunter model is equally cool.....except it's not equiped with a brake.........but then again a brake is a luxury.
gnein
would that be a unicyclr perhaps???
:) Rich :)
gnein....you must b very smart... :)

It would be one that you would not have to do any maintenance to. One that would hold up through anything. One that the manufacturer would warranty everything on it for life against anything. It would cost around $25. You could get them anywhere. You would never have to patch the tubes on a ride. That is my idea but it will never see the light.

Any mountain bike, is the ultimate bike.!!!
Steve, what do you mean....???
Surely a XTR Titanium bike is better than a No name parts Cro Mo one.

Price aside, as a friend of mine once said who ran a bike shop. Any bike you ride is better than one you do not, as long as it didnot come from K- Mart. I think he was a little predujice on that one HA HA HA.!!!!!!!!
He he.....K-Mart sounds pretty bad....
Have a great weekend riding mate

The ultimate bike is the one you are riding, instead of sitting at your computer in the office for 8-10 hours a day, 5 days a week, then having to mow the lawn and do other chores on your day off leaving you only 2 hours to get a 3 hour ride in.
XC bike - GT Zaskar Team
Downhill - GT DHi
Trials - GT team trials (this bike is sooo easy to handle)
Single Speed - Old Schwinn
Dual Suspension Freeride: Norco VPS-1 or 2
Freeride hardtail - GT Ruckus
I think there is a pattern developing involving GT what do you think? I guess I'm just a little biased.

Klein Mantra Pro is the best bike ever for xc!!!!!!! :)

If I were a tank driver, I'd say a Chieftan Tf345, is the best cross country rig...

I saw Mael post about the Nicolai on a different thread so I went to the site to check it out. I couldn't find any links explaining the technology behind it. Do you have any?

I think its all about your own opionon
I think the ultinate bike would be one that is super light, long travel (at least 7 inches), strong, and pedals like a cross country bike. But that will never happen.

In following him, all the above plus it can take 6-10' drops, perform like crazy downhill, freeride like no other bike and then you can go and win an XC race on it.
