Thought I would try to get some advice for converting my mid 80's Guerciotti to a SS. It was built up full campy, with 170mm cranks (53,42t). 32 hole sew up rims with low flange record hubs (6sp freewheel). I want to convert it using the smallest amount of dough. Do I need to buy a new rear hub or can I thread on a bmx freewheel? What are my options for going to a fixed gear? Can I use my BB or do I need to purchase a shorter one? Any help/guidance offered will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and may the wind stay at your back!

I'd say if you're wanting to keep the wheelset then just respace the hub with a bmx freewheel on it so it lines up with the inner chainring in the front. Then redish the wheel so its centered in the frame again. Fixgedgeargallery.com has an article on how to do it, with fixed gear in mind but its the same exact process, only with a freewheel.

Have fun!
