Are you kidding? I just rode from Harlem to Williamsburg (with a couple of beer breaks on the way) with a friend--he did geared, I did fixed. My friend, visiting from out of town, turns to me several times and says, 'This is the best tour I've had of any city...ever!' Can't beat it here; nighttime is bike time.

That was by far the longest ride I've done on fixed so far, and it was all made possible by empty streets and wide lanes with few pedestrians and fewer cars.

Fantastic!

Anyone in NYC know what the traffic rule is about the southbound tunnel from Park Av. around Grand Central Station? Did I break the law there? Damn that was fun--would never walk it, but ride it, sure, in a heartbeat. My friend loved it.

I have a favorite parking garage that I like to go to the top of around midnight. Nobody ever drives by and it's a perfect view of the city, I stay up there for about an hour to practice track stands and reverse 360s until my wrists hurt too much. Since I got a new frame/fork maybe I'll be able to do the no-handed, I've tried no handed but my tire liked to turn to 90 degrees then I'd try to keep balance with pedaling and the fork would just spring me back to position or make the tire sorta skip along the ground instead of rolling.

Since I'm home from college and away from the city I'll have to figure out how to make my night rides fun in the farm land.

The one that goes underground? I think there's signs posted that forbid bikes.

I was "motorpacing" my friend's RX-8 on saturday after a few...it was indeed a fun ride.

there is indeed a "no bikes" sign at the entrance to that tunnel.

i always ride on the elevated roadway over GCT, though. doesn't feel too safe riding down the covered ramp on north side when traffic is heavy.

Absolutely. Many of my friends are horrified when I ride through town at night. Where I live, there's much less traffic especially after 10 p.m. Post-midnight rides are the absolute best, the streets are so peaceful and calm. There's not much wind, it's cool in the summertime, the bugs aren't out.
