Difference between "cyclocross" and "road" frames?

Complete ignoramous here when it comes to the sport of Cyclocross. However, I was looking at a frame/fork that is for sale, and I came across one that was billed as "cyclocross" frame. From the pictures I've seen of the thing with my untrained eye, it looks the same as a road frame.

So, what am I missing???

brake bosses are different so you can run cati's, some also have disc tabs. Also a slightly shorter top tube sometimes.

Thanks, Jim. "Disc tabs"??? Not sure what that is/they are. I'm not interested in putting canti's on the frame (probably disc BRAKES); my goal is to build up the frame as more of a hybrid road bike. I can refer you to the pictures, if you'd like to see them them.

Disc tabs are what you mount disc brakes on.

Recently I tested a Lemond Poprad and it was beefier than my Fuji Team SL road bike. The bottom bracket is a little higher off the ground compared with typical road bikes. It can also accomodate wider tires. In general cyclocross bikes are heavier than similarily priced road bikes. However, I wouldn't dare jump off any curbs or cut across yards on my road frame like I was doing with the cyclocross bike.
