Hi,

I've got a 2004 Cannondale F300. The handlebars came loose while riding this weekend and now spin whenever the bike is jostled. I’ve look through all my paper-work and the Cannondale web site and I can’t seem to find any info on what size allen wrench I need to use to tighten it. Anyone know where I can find this out?

Thanks.

Get a 4mm, a 5mm and a 6mm allen wrench and see which one goes into the bolt and fits. That's the one you use. My guess is that it's a 5mm.

Nope, that's why I'm asking the question. Never had a reason for owning an allen wrench before now, so I don't own any. Are those the standard sizes I would need?

Thanks.

Probably either a 4 or 5 mm (they're all metric). Is it spinning around the steerer tube of the fork?

If so, it's a little more then just tightening the bolts, you may need to check the preload on the bearings.

Have a look at http://www.parktool.com/repair_help/

There's a really good joke here about getting an "adjustable" allen wrench but that would be mean. ;)

If you have a bike you will need a 4, 5, 6 and 8mm allen wrech. You will probably need a 2, 2.5, and 3mm wrenches also. You will not ever need a 7mm.

Hey, don't laugh; I've got a crescent in my toolbox that has the jaw range in millimeters stamped on the handle!

I'm scared to use it on my Raleighs; anybody got a Whitworth crescent? :D

yeah, but is it left handed or right handed. Very important to know depending on if you are loosening or tightening fasteners.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Just grabbed a set and will give it a try when I get home.
