whats on the way, will the rest of my plan work?

ok .. we have the axle (on the way) and a set of sugino crank arms and FSA rings.

Rear Derailer LX Deore Shimano w/ a 8.5cm long cage on it.
Avid Single digit 25 front and rear v brakes

a set of terry seats

This is what I plan on using but dont have the parts yet

Ultrega sti shifters
rear LX cassette (ive been reading about the xtr failures tks)
wheel set 8 or 9 spd (looking for used for now)
front ultrega derailer

I think all of this will work together well?
I have been told that my fsa middle ring will not have ramps or pins and that I will need to shift under power in to the middle ring.

Recomend a chain? ive been told something cheap for the sync chain and then a good one for the driveside?

am i missing any thing?

Lx cassette is fine, and I have recently had an XT cassette fold on me.

The ramps and pins do help on changing, but just checked my Tandem- No ramps or pins and no problem changing either.

Now on the Chains-- Whether it has been 8 or 9 speed, on the solo or the Tandem, I have always used the Shimano "XT" chain (There are differences between the 8 and 9 speed chains) Never broken one yet, but last year decided to use an XTR/Durace chain. It broke within 100miles and it wasn't just a badly fitted chain. On inspection I had 3 other breakages about to occur. Back to my LBS and they recommended a top of the range SRAM chain. Didn't break it, but it caused me a lot of chain skipping, Changed the cassette (To the XT) didn't cure it,Fitted an XT chain and reverted to an LX cassette and no problems since. Tried the sram again once I had everything sorted and running perfectly, and it still skips. Others will swear by sram, but on this occasion I am swearing at them.

On the sync chain, I have now done 4000 miles on mine. Apart from the initial stretch from new, there has been no further adjustment necessary, and the chain is still good. It is the cheap original as fitted, is a no name, or not one that I recognise, but has been good enough.

I will keep the chain thing in mind I will also keep the cassette in mind too. of course i have to find my wheel befor I find a cassette

We went all SRAM (from XT/XTR) with no problems, but did break a SRAM timing chain due to a disagreement about whether to stop or go. You should locate your wheelset first, and let that dictate your shifters/cassette. Much easier that way.
