Five recumbents competed in a field of 150 on May 15th in the 20km Fiesta Island TT in San Diego
The results:
Tom Amick homebuilt semi-lowracer 35:29 (21.01mph)
Tom Novak Rotator Pursuit (tailfaired) 32:50 (22.71mph)
Larry Lem homebuilt FWD super-lowracer 30:09 (24.73mph)
Peter Borenstadt 700/20 Zox lowracer (tailfaired) 29:21 (25.41mph)
Randy Gillett homebuilt FWD dual700 (tf) 25:01 (29.81mph)
Peter had an off day having logged a 26.55mph run on this course last October on his tailfaired carbon dual-700 highracer. I believe Tom Novak wasn't himself either as he gave me much trouble at the Encino velodrome HPV event last summer with a front-faired version of his bike.
I was able to put in a decent effort in spite of the dense air, road surface, or whatever it is that makes you feel like you're riding through molasses on that course. I was hoping for thirty but it was not to be.
