Introductions - Hello from San Francisco

My nickname is the Flyin Hawaiian. I raced from the mid-70's to to mid-90's. I stopped racing after I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, a neurological disorder that interferes with muscle coordination. It currently has no cure but the rate of progression has been slowed down in many instances by new meds. I currently do volunteer work in the Senior Community. I play ther uke (with a name like the Flyin Hawaiian, it is no surprise), love my granddaughter, and live like there's no tomorrow. I also keep tabs on the cycling world where I made countless friends (and perhaps enemies), and had unforgettable experiences.

Are you familiar with Jim "Parky" Wetherell's site, www.inevergiveup.org? Jim is an avid cyclist despite his PD.

Hi, JenM...Thanks for the information about Jim Wetherall. He's quite a fighter. And here in California, I was fortunate to be able to work for the passage of Proposition 71. I also run a support group and belong to group of Parkies to make information from the research end reach the users in a more efficient manner. I think riding a bike creates a sense of optimism in one's reward for work done now...I remember all the times I said to myself when responding to an attack on a hill "Don't get dropped!"
I think that's what I respond with on the bad days... "Don't get dropped!"
