Ah the French... inventors of the Maginot Line and the Guillotine... only friendly to the US when the German Army takes a summer vacation to Paris...

so much to love about the French.

OK, they did give us the Statue of Liberty, which is nice... thanks guys.

Not to mention the fact that without their help the War of Independence may not have been won. But you probably won't get to hear that on Faux News ...

Yep they backed our azzes on that one, thanks to Ben Franklin who knew too little to hate the French...... and getting back to the original subject the book does not drip with adoration of the French.

I didn't realize the French were a race. I guess you learn something new every day.

And no... I don't think I've ever seen anyone on this forum denigrate either Jews or persons of color, nor do I think anyone would tolerate it for long.

But you're perfectly okay with denigrating the French?

Nice double standard.

I cannot stand this type of nonsense...I have traveled to Europe on numerous occasions and have met many french people and have been treated with nothing but courtesy. It is all about how you present yourself. As Americans all of us should find this type of behavior unacceptable.....of course my attitude may be a product of my growing up black in the '60s. But this French bashing has got to stop pepole. With behavior like this, who are WE to bash anyone?

Now is "Frech Revolutions" the actual title of the book. I am vey interested in European History and would like to get a copy of that. Can you tell me who the author is? I would appreciate it

French Revolutions, by Tim Moore.

published in the UK by 'Yellow Jersey Press' ( www.randomhouse.co.uk ) - that's the info on the back of my copy, it may be a different publisher on your side of the water.

It's very funny, basically the author attempts to ride the 2000 Tour route a week before the actual race.
Worth hunting down.

Sure, I'll start. Maybe this can then hop to Jokes

Sammy Davis Jr. went onto a bus in the back in the day. "N----r, get to the back of the bus," said the bus driver. "But I'm Jewish!!" Sammy said. The bus driver replied, "Get off!!"

Yeah great book, I've read it a couple of times now. I laughed like hell over his ill fated attempt at doping!! what an idiot almost O.Ding on cold medication...
That said,I'd love to attempt what he did..

How come a thread about something as trivial as a book has to end up as a race/nationality discussion.

We all bleed red people.

I'm sorry to find that this thread had already spun off the road. Feh.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this book. I love how he describes riding all morning and getting mildly drunk every lunch, and having to wash out his shorts and water bottles every night in the hotel sink.

God, I'd love to do what he did someday.

Don't worry, just say the word "French" in front of any audience here and you'll always find some who will choke and start laughing at their own jokes  . The same happens over there. Sometime it gets even a little nastier :( .

I'm definitly going to check this book at my local library. And it's by a British author, all the better! :D

Thanks lilHiinault for the recommendation!
