Finally finished her. I am using the cranks that came with the bike. I used parts off the Homegrown(retired). Not the greatest pix, wife took the good camera for her summer internship. Special appearance by Cadette one of my Dad's dogs.
Frame - Kona Hahanna. Picked it up off a friend. Its about 7 years old. Chromo baby!
Bars- Surly torsion bar with Haro grips (ODI mushroom lookalikes)
Seat - Selle Italia Prolink TransAm.
Wheels - Deore hubs laced to Mavic 317's.
Brakes - Deore V's
Tires - Maxxis larsen Mimo's 26x2.00 for now.
Gusset SS conversion kit, with Surly Singlelator.
gear ratio - 43x20. Did this for trails and commuting.
In the works Custom Lone Star Beer headbadge.

That gear seems like it'd be pretty steep for trail riding, but it'll make up for it on the road I guess...

Thanks. The gear is okay for me, and down here in Houston. I really got to thinking that you could probably get away with running bigger than 32x16 down here. Biggest climbs around here are the Bridges going over the ship channel, but that is nothing I plan on taking on. If I am going to be heading out of town, yeah changing the gears are going to be in order.

It is a bit steep, the 43x20.

I run 34x16 (same ratio) on one of my bikes and its steep but you can get the job done if you are strong enough. Good for rolling terrain. If it was long climbs and descents, I would go for something weaker. It would not be fun up a 2 mile fireroad.

So far, LOVE them. I loved my hellbent XC's that came on my Homegrown for the rake back, but these blow them out of the water. Last night I rode at Jack Brooks, LOTS OF ROOTS and switchback. I have to admit first couple of turns were sloppy, but then I got used to the steering. Its still early, but I am already thinking of ordering another pair for my other SS.

Through the ride I found that SS and rigid is WAY FUN. Sure the roots jarred me a few times, but that is just par for the course. I felt more connected to the bike, more manueverable on the skinnies. I think its the rebirth of slick.
