Hey -

I'm sure a bunch of you have seen this already, but for those of you who haven't, here's a link that'll bring you to a 20 page .pdf breaking down Keirin racing for you. It even includes in-depth analysis of where the proceeds go to and which governmental organizations control what. It gets a little tedious, but it's interesting (in that way that speaks to the bike-geek in all of us).

Nice. Tomita gave the original identical pamphlet last week when I was in Tokyo. Understand, when reading it, that it is essentially propaganda justifying the sport of Keirin (i.e., the gambling). He also gave me a much larger publication (like 25 pages) that is the Keirin racer's how-to manual. It covers everything from hub overhaul and hub-lacing to bike fit to how to land in a crash. It's an excellent resource. Unfortunately it is in Japanese. I know it has this stuff in it because of the helpful pictures.

The curator of the bicycle museum in Tokyo is a friend of Tomity's, and when we went there he gave me two VHS tapes covering the history of Keirin. I haven't watched these, but I expect they will also be kinda neat.
