Anyone here doing the CapTexTri? http://www.captextri.com

This will be my first one (sprint) and I'm EXTREMELY nervous. I'll have my wife on the sidelines cheering me on, which will help immensely, but it'd be cool to meet up with a board member or two.

Not doing it this year, sadly.
Don't worry about it being your first, a lot of people there will be in the same boat.
It is a very well organized race, course is well marked, support is excellent, one of the best races i've been to.
Actually met a couple from Brazil there! They fly up every year to do a sprint tri!!
That's how good the race is.
Just try not to get any of Towme Lake (swim course) in your mouth, and remember where you racked your bike (huge transition area).
Good luck and have fun!

Makes me feel better knowing a lot of newbies will be there. I just bought some tri shorts and a new jersey, so I'm ready to go! :) I'll be sure to post my experience afterwards. Thanks EarlT!

Well it was a fantastic event. Everything was very well organized, volunteers were knowledgeable, and the whole atmosphere was one of fun and exicitement. 11 out of 10 for my first tri experience.

The weather was perfect. Slightly overcast/very hazy sunshine in the morning and slowly cleared to bright blue skies by the finish. Austin received very strong thunderstorms and heavy lightning the night before, but everything cleared up nicely by morning, although the rain did make the water 10-15 degrees colder, which was a nice surprise when I jumped in.

My group ended up having to tread water for like 5 minutes before our start due to an injured swimmer, and it wore me out a lot more than I expected. I left the water second to last in my group, and I was way more tired than I should have been. The swim leg was definitely the hardest part for me, but at least I know what to concentrate a lot of training on for the next one. I did get a lot more water in my mouth than was ideal...750M total.

The bike leg went much better, and I ended up catching a lot of the guys in my group. The route was relatively flat with a couple short steep hills, and we did 2 loops on the course for 20K.

The run portion hurt me more than I was expecting, as my IT band started acting up and I had to slow to a walk a couple times. The course was almost completely flat, with some slight grade changes. One loop for a total of 5K.

There were many aid stations along the run course which offered water and gatorade. At the finish volunteers were handing out cold towels, and there were tents for more water/gatorade and fruit.

Things I've learned for my next tri:

* Train more for the swim!!! :)

* Get there earlier to set up the transition area. Ground space becomes valuable real estate, and the longer you wait, the less you have.

* Plan my diet much better. I was so nervous the night before and the day of that I had to force food down.

* Stay in the area that night. Driving home to Houston after that much exertion was not fun.

Overall, it was honestly the best sports-related experience I've ever had. So much camaraderie between all the athletes, encouragement everywhere from other athletes and the crowd, and people smiling everywhere and having a good time. I'll be training for another in July in Irving, and I'm really looking forward to concentrating on time for that event. My wife took some pics, so hopefully I can have those up within the next few days. Thanks a million! :D
