This happened a week or so ago, never happened before then, and hasn't happened since. For about 10 seconds, my heart stopped beating completely, and "fluttered". The only way I can describe it is as muscle twitching mixed with vibration. I talked to my girlfriend about this, she's got a family of EMTs and she's a fireman so she knows some stuff, and she told me she's only ever heard of that happening in pregnant women...

I know i'm not pregnant. But I still don't know what happened...is it something I should get checked out? I'm 19, 168 lbs, 8% body fat, and eat healthy. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

It was probably just a PVC or premature ventricular contraction.

The lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, contract earlier than usual because of abnormal electrical activity of the ventricles. The PVC is usually followed by a pause, (feels like your heart stopped) while the electrical system "resets" itself. After resetting, the contraction following this pause is usually stonger than normal and your body perceives these contractions as palpitations. The beats following the pause and resetting is called extrasystole. Many times these are benign, but if it keeps happening, you need to see a doc.

Same thing happened to me last night. I wondered if perhaps I was having some type of attack or something. I'll watch carefully, then see a doctor if it's happening regularly.

Oh no! All of our hearts are running Windows and they're getting Blue Screens of Death! Time to switch to Linux!

That is until you realize none of your games or favourite apps work under linux, then you die anyways.
