i posted this in general cycling i guess i forgot about racing and mountain biking. this is deffinatly a BMX topic

i went to my local bike shop to get tires and i picked up a pair of haro catapults. becasue i have been riding dirt with my street tires and wanted to get a pair of dirt/street tires. my bike is freestyle/street and it has seen alot of frequent dirt use. it makes kind of a bong noise sounds kind of like a spring when i come down hard of jumps. i cant imagine this being good for my bike. is it something that i should really worry about? and is it bad to use a street bike on dirt courses?

Your street bike should be fine for dirt. It's only the opposite, trying to do tricks on a race bike, that you'll run into problems.

One of the big differences with dirt speciific bikes is that they usually don't include pegs as there is nothing to grind on dirt. It's just jumping.

So, there is no harm there. If your bike is making a pinging noise, then something is loose - your bike shouldn't make noise. It could be your wheel (bearings/spokes), or your headset/forks - those the the most likely culprits. Though it could be cranks or something cracked or any number of other things that are going on.

first off...i had Haro Catapult tires for the first month or soo after i bought my bike...aside from blowing sidewalls at random times, they were good tires for street and great dirt tires..but if you want dirt specific tires then go with so Maxxis Holly Rollers (2.20" in the front and 1.95" in the back) this is what i am using right now and they are great for dirt and i dont have any trouble with them when i go to the skatepark or ride some street....as far as "dirt jumping bikes"...pegs are the biggest difference besides tires, possibly beefer wheels (48hs vs. 36)[or like some people less beefy wheels...and toptube lenght..some people that ride dirt like to have longer (21") toptubes so that they have more room to move around...and some trail riders like narrow bars...its all personal prefference ...by the way what kind of bike do you have? that might help us answer your question better

There's a reason why this hasn't been posted in for a month.
