I have been riding a lot with my lillte girl lately. Mostly around the driveway and at the park. Watching her ride sends visions of emergency room visits through my mind. She is only two now but she can tear it up on her trike, already riding no handed or standing on the back and coasting down the small grade of the driveway and even riding off curbs.
One really nice thing is that she already knows she does not ride a bike with out her helmet. When we go to the lbs she asks for a helmet then goes and sits on all the bikes. Well I gues I am just a proud dad, that is all I have to say.

I think my daughter was 5 when she broke her arm doing sprints for BMX race training. They heal. She's 10 now and rides a Sirrus, and her average speed is about 11.5 MPH and climbing. Longest ride to date was 44 miles, but we're doing a metric century the first weekend in June, planning on a full century this fall.
I'm a proud dad too!

It is amazing whatching how quicly they pick stuff up especially compared to adults (at least we like to think we are at times ;) ). 10yrs and 44mi. that is great. It is fun watching the little ones ride. There was a dad and his 5 yr old son at one of the dh races once. It was a blast watching the little guy ride the course. He did very well too.

I was riding yesterday and came upon a father and son on the trail.
I said to the boy, "Wow, you are really a great bicycle rider!" (I always try to give a compliment to young riders).
Dad said proudly, "He rode 12 miles yesterday."
I asked, "How old are you, young man."
Dad responds, "He is five."
Young man responds, "No, I am 5 and one-half." :D
Dad says. "The boy has been riding his bike since he was 3," (which is the same age my own son started riding a two-wheeler).
They are much more capable of doing things than we adults might like to think!
I rode a beginners ride last night and rode at the back to make sure no one was left behind. A young girl of about 12 complained to her father constantly about how hard riding a bike was. I would much rather see someone pick up cycling at a very young age. With a helmet and learning to stay out of traffic almost all injuries should fall in the minor category.

That is great about the helmet. My son had one of his friends stay over last weekend (they're both 8) and they were on their bikes and ready to go ride around the school across the street when all of a sudden they came rushing back in because they had forgotten their helmets. It was good to see it has become a habit.
On the funny side of things, the other day I passed a dad with a small boy on a taglong behind. As I passed I realized the boy was happily riding away making motor noises as they rode. I had to laugh out loud at that one.
