Mountain Biking - Got to ride a 2500 dollar bike today :)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

And not around a parking lot either. There was a shop demoing Cannondales at the spot I ride at so I took one up the same trails I usually ride.
Bike: Prophet 1000Z
Liked: Ground clearance, Hydo brakes, How it gripped the ground, looked to be built very well.
Didn't like: The X9 SRAM didn't shift smooth and the SRAM shifters suck, that one-barrel shock is weird, it cost freaking 2500 bucks!
Verdict: Sweet bike which leaves what I currently ride in the dust. However, what I ride at the moment cost me $250 not $2500 and since I am just starting out it does me fine. If I had a 2 grand and over budget for a bike I would rather check out a Klein or better yet buy an Elsworth Frame as well as the other parts and build it myself.

Sounds like the shop didn't have the drivetrain adjusted properly, when properly tuned, the sram drivetrain is very smooth and precise.

That's what I think also. I would hope a X9 shifts better than my Acera because that one didn't

I run a SRAM drivetrain on my 2500 dollar bike and I absolutely love it. The shifts are alot crisper and more precise than shimano.

Why would you get an Ellsworth if you had never ridden one?

An Ellsworth frame is a pipedream for me at the moment. I like the quality and it would give me a chance to actually build a bike rather than just get one from a store.

If you get an Ellsworth frame, dont void the warranty because you will need it.

Who makes a good frame? I am actually leaning towards building a bike over buying a complete one. I'm a bit weird like that :)

I ride a $2000+ bike all the time.... Not bragging, just a fact. Don't take long to add up the cost.

Thats IF they choose to honor it.
Be careful if you ever do get a chance to ride an Ellsworth, they are addicting. Click on my signature to see my new Truth. As for the warranty they definately do not have a good reputation on their frames from 2003 and before. They haven't really had any issues since mid 2003 though.
Oh yeah, I run SRAM on my $5,000 bike and I love it!
