I am interested in finding out if you all think that 42 miles a week is enough for a begginer. I just started out training really, as I have only messed about on bikes for the past few years. Like most sports I figure you must have to start slow and move to greater things later, seing as I am only 14 I think this is acceptable at the moment, but I am always willing to take good advice. I am currently doing about 6 miles a day at about 20 km/h. I might start to do more at the weekends and I have the summer holidays coming up next friday, so I might do more during the 8 weeks I get off. I am looking forward to your suggestions.

Your milleage is quite OK for now. Dont worry about how much you do. Are you planning to race, or ride for fun?
In the summer, you can extend your rides into long day tours. It helps if you have some riding buddies, and you know enough about repairs to solve the commoner problems,.

At your age, I was riding about 5 miles into work, stacking straw bales all day, then a 5 mile ride back home, all to pay for the bike.

I wish I had 8 weeks of to play on my bike.

I am riding for fun just now, and to get into shape and lose some weight with it. I really enjoy riding, that's why I am here ;o As the siggy says it sets me free ;-) I think I will take your advice and extend my rides in summer, go explore new places. It will be good fun and experience. I currently dont have any riding buddies because I dont live near any of my mates at school, and even if I did they might not be able to keep up with me. After all, I did used to be a county standard swimmer, so I have got a fair bit of stamina. Thanks again for the advice.
