"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - An idea for that short TT starting the Giro...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just throwing this one out there after watching the short TT that opened the tour....

It was so much like a little dragstrip anyway, wouldn't it have been more fan-friendly if they did some sort of seeding and actually had two riders, side-by-side racing like a dragstrip?

Hmmm.... you might be onto something there. They ran the kilo on the track like a pursuit for a short while, and I've seen straight line sprints over 300m on the road.

The only fault I can see is that the TT was on the seafront, so if the wind blew in off the ocean the rider on the ocean side of the road would have been sheltered and favoured by the barricades and the crowd.

Pretty much any idea you think of would have made that less boring. It would have been more interesting to draw a name from a hat to wear the Maglia Rosa!

or you could have two riders face each other, 1km apart. then they ride toward each other in full body armour, shields, and javelins. actually it might be cooler to replace the bikes with horses, since it would be hard to ride a bike with all that stuff. has anything like that ever been done before? :p

How about a crossover at the halfway point ot eliminate any advantage?

It would be new if you gave them chainsaws...or machine guns.

How about we let them race it the old way, but blindfolded.
This would put more emphasis on their pre-race study of the course.

Street Sprints, always a fun event to watch and ride!

Not eactly like that. The crossover would be a bridge over the other lane. One lane would bridge over the other, and the other would have a dip in it to make it fair.
