The nubs on my tires have been getting low and I think it is effecting my traction. Is there any guide to use when thinking about getting new tires?

If they have dirt on them or any sign of being looked at too hard, buy new ones.

If there worn down, just replace 'em.

I think there is some fallacy in KonaRider24's logic-
if there's dirt on em', that might mean you are riding in slightly too muddy conditions. Several excellent dry trail tires are the worst ever in mud. Same vice-versa. But the one genarilization that can be trusted is this: if the tread is more than 65% worn down (from its original height), replace them.

I run them until a certain percentage of rubber is left.

When there is a hole in the tire...replace it. 65% is a lot of the tread left. Well at least for my tires it is.

I have a hole in my tire from a nail, should it be replaced? The tread is still pretty decent.

I guess I should stop using my tires until the threads show through before I replace 'em. ;)
