I heard from someone that you can buy liquid latex at hobby/craft stores that works as good or better than the stan's sealant. Anyone heard this? Thoughts?

Stan's base is liquid latex so, using liquid latex alone without the added ingredients would not be nearly as effective. I've recently switched to Stan's after having been a loyal "Slime" user for about 3 years now and I'm pretty happy. The Slime just wasn't filling the small, but persistent puncture in my new tire so I thought I'd try it and I haven't had a single problem with it thus far.
