View Full Version : Kids' Riding Apparel?

We have inherited my 6 year old niece. She loves to ride her bike and does well on it, but we want to take her out on some of our training routes. We have purchased a Burley Piccolo (still waiting for it to arrive) and intend to give her a chance at the longer rides with us.

Our problem is that we don't have the foggiest idea where to look for children's riding apparel, jerseys and shorts (she already has a helmet and gloves).

Any of you family riders know of some internet links for kid's clothes?

Performance has some. I got some shorts for my son and they seem ok. Sizing is a little odd on him as he is only 3 but they do their job. They have jerseys as well if you like Spongebob...

www.teamestrogen.com carries kids clothes. They just seems awfully expensive. Same manufacturing and fabrics as the big kids stuff so you know the functionality and comfort is there but we don't (normally) grow out of our jerseys in a few days. I would think good shorts though are a must.

I bought two yellow kid jersey's from Performance, and they suck (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=10828&subcategory_ID=1300)

The seams at the bottom of the jersey's started to unravel after they've been used once. The sizing is very strange, I got the 6-8 size, but they barely fit my 5 1/2 year old, but fit my 3 1/2 old just fine.

www.velowear.com sells youth clothing as does REI (http://clients.mapquest.com/rei/mqinterconnect?business=IL&closestn=20&closestprox=1&miles=900&link=find).

We second the suggestion: Kucharik! Extremely well made, in the USA, since . . . get this . . . 1930!

The Spongebob Squarepants jersery in the Performance catolog/website is made by Descente, which is a HQ clothing company.

The velowear site is my favorite for kids' stuff. The Voler brand is good and not too expensive.
