Haha, I saw that hummer bike in sams club. It looks pretty odd, I think I'd rather one of those low end dahon folding bikes for about the same price.

The caddilac... well, it looks alright, but if caddilac decides to make all kinds of different products it'll be confusing...

Cadillac licences brand name to US bike company
Kent International of New Jersey is to produce Cadillac Bicycles for supply through the US IBD channel. Kent Bicycles are more usually available in big box outlets such as Walmart and Toys R Us. The press release announcing the move says: "Consumer Demand Drives Well-Known Automobile Brand to “Brake” Into the Bicycle Industry." Cadillac last lent its name to bicycles in the 1950s.

Billed as the "ultimate expression on two wheels", Kent International will market six Cadillac-branded bicycles.

There will be "two adventure-sport models emphasizing comfort, one All-Road multi-use trail bike, one mountain bicycle inspired by its Escalade SUV and a performance Road bicycle modeled after its CTS-V sports sedan."

Ron Lippner, general manager of Cadillac Bicycles, said:

“Cadillac Bicycles will be the benchmark for all bicycles with its advanced characteristics. We are committed to providing the consumer that values quality, style and performance with the ultimate riding experience. In a world where brand names often go unrecognized by many, we believe Cadillac Bicycles will stand out in a league of its own.”

A statement from Kent International said Cadillac Bicycles will be available in "independent, specialty bike shops for $500 to $1900."

The Hummer bike is from Montague. You can find the same bike for far less direct from Montague. Montague bikes aren't bad.

BTW, in case some of you don't know, Cadillac has sponsored a MTB team (Team Catera) in the past. They were riding Kleins.

There was a Cadillac bicycle back in the late 1940s. I don't know if it was related to the automaker however.

Personally, I would flip my impressions. The Cadillac bike is being produced by Kent Bicycles and despite Cadillac's claim that they will only be sold through IBDs, my guess is that there's a pretty good chance you'll see them at X-Mart. Kent typically produces bikes for the Toys 'R' Us and X-Mart market. The Hummer bike is actually made by Montague. The original design of that bike was a direct response to work done between Montague and DARPA to produce a paratrooper bike for the military.

 Are you serious?

Absolutely.

Back in WW2 bicycles were employed in a variety of commando type roles by the British and Allied forces. The Swiss Army had a bicycle unit up until recently too.

The military has a history of using bicycles. In more recent times, there have been numerous studies on the use of bicycles for special operations type work.

Hey I'm prepared to be wrong, I do lot of that :) . I'm familiar with Kent stuff there's a lot of it lying around campus. Montague I've never heard of. As for military use the Japanese army used bikes to transport the troops that took Singapore down the Mayasian peninsula during WWII. There were no roads as such and no railway lines so bicycles were used to transport troops and equipment.

It looks like it but it's nothing like it. The Klein Mantra is a full suspension URT design. The Hummer is a hardtail folding design.

This branding of things with automotive emblems, is this a trend? I saw some Jeep bicycles on the internet the other day. On the other hand, Porsche and Ferrari have been licensing their names for everything from sunglasses to hard drives for years, so why not.

What's that quick-release lever sticking up in the middle of the Hummer bike's top frame? (Can't really call it a top tube.)

I believe there is a ferrari bike, or maybe it's lamorghini, one of the 2, that is actually quite nice. It is a road bike, but, it is very top end, at nearly 6 or 7 grand.

It's a Colnago with Ferrari graphics. And it's very very pricey at $8000.

The Swiss military bikes were no lightweights either. The military version of the Hummer bike (Montague Paratrooper) probably weighs more than the civilian models due to heavier lower-cost parts but not considerably more. I doubt it's 50lbs. A lower end Montague Hummer MTB with primarily Acera and no-name brand components has a shipping weight of 35lbs. The bike itself probably is somewhere in the upper 20s to lower 30s pound range.

Your CF OZ has spoiled you man.... My bike's all weigh more than 30 lbs. I have one that weighs 36 lbs. with high-end groupo & light-weight tires too. I doubt that bike weighs in the 20's no matter what they say is the shipping weight.... Period.
The bike itself "might" weigh 35 lbs. but I seriously doubt it.

Several websites I looked at list the weight at 29lbs. One listed the weight at 32lbs. And many others list shipping weight at 35lbs. Why would a shipper lie about the shipping and freight weight?

Note that there's an E-bike version that can be converted back to a regular bike. This bike along with motors and batteries weighs in somewhere between 64 lbs and 80 lbs depending upon the variant. TidalForce is a manufacturer which is licensed to use the Montague folding frame and then adapt it for electric drive using WaveCrest Adaptive Motor's system.

From what I understand, the BMW front suspension design actually worked quite well. Whyte uses a similar design. It was originally based off for BMW's motorcycle suspension.
