Mountain Biking - I'm sold

Well, recently, I'd bought a full face Netti helmet. I noticed that the mouth guard rode up whenever I hit anything a little hard, so I got this thing called a chin jock that fits under your helmet and stops the full face from riding up. It's really handy and Im not a sponsor, but im saying that this is one of the greatest things to happen to full face helmets. Its a tad pricy at 30 CAD incl shipping (only pricy for those w/out jobs :P) but it's well worth it.

Ps. Duct tape isnt necessary, i just like putting it over stuff :P

Is it me or is it always very scary/unsettling to downgrade your safety equip. Like if your used to wearing knee pads, and you ride without them, you just seem like its a crime.
Like for motocross i didn't wear a chest protector for a couple of years, then got one, and though i wanted to i just couldnt bear to ride w/out it. Possible superstition.

No it's not just you. I've been wearing seatbelts so long something feels off when it's not on. I can't ride my motorcycle w/o full gear or I feel nekid.

I've seen those chin strap dealies and I always thought that you shouldn't need it if your helmet fits correctly.

How does that logic work?

Extreme = full face helmet. Decrease extremity, you have a regular helmet.

If extreme = no helmet, then decreasing it would mean riding naked. I'm sure you don't want a video of that...

Some people consider themselves extreme for not wearing protective wear. Like you.

I'm in no way, shape or form 'extreme'.

I also don't pretend to have a good reason for not wearing helmet. I don't deny the excellent reasons for wearing one.

Based on just a mental thing about wearing a helmet, I hit stuff faster and I'm more inclined to do tricks or something midair.. which of course makes me crash more :P
I'll probably get a video or picture of me hitting a jump that I was working on yesterday, probably wearing a helmet. I'm sure I'll have several people mock something about the photo or video, most likely the size of the jump will be the main target for that.

Good to hear you'll be wearing a helmet. You should wear it all the time and train yourself so that when you are wearing your helmet, if feels like when you're not so you wont do anything stupid.

As for the people who pay out the jump, if they say anything, ill be on your side backing you up. You're out there riding and having fun, thats all that matters.

If a helmet fits correctly, and its strap is tight, the mouthguard will still be able to move up with some force. Try putting it on. The point of the chin jock is you dont want your chin or your forehead toasted. Or your face for that matter.

Again guys, check it out, I'm not going to bump this thread any more, but this is definetely a great product. Basically its a strap that attaches to your neck strap and mouth guard, and keeps the mouth guard from riding up, exposing chin and forehead.

I can understand the need for them but i wouldnt get one.

Nothing beats the traditional fastening system for full faced helmets. Plastic snaps seems to be too weak for a full faced helmet. Looking at the picture, it looks like a great way to get whiplash. Sometimes with fullface's when in a violent spill the helmet will come off in order to protect the neck, chin straps allow that to happen, the snaps don't.

IF the chin strap snaps, the chin jock comes off. It's good in the sense that your forehead doesn't get busted. Theres a reason why your instruction manuals for your full face helmet say that your forehead shouldn't be exposed, same with serious pro's gearing up. Though they may not be the best example, I don't think pros are completely reckless.

The metal rings.

Ahhhh! The metal holds the strap tight doesnt it? Frankly, if the metal allows the strap to slide out and let the helmet fall, I think thats enough force to snap the plastic buckles. And if the buckle broke, the chin jock releases. Alot of people use it, and it does work, and really, having your helmet ride up as you crash chin first, really isn't fun.

So don't crash :)

Crashing is part of mountain biking. I guess everyone has their own opinion about products, but I know enough people to know that the benefits of this product outweigh the issues (the only one i know of is what konarider24 brought up).

It's also myth but there is a level of breaking away but it's with the face guard. I was feeling like a wise ass yesterday. You know debating for the sake of debating.
