General Cycling Discussion - Which wheel is stronger?

Quick question. Which are stronger? 36H Alex X-303 rims to Deore Hubs or 32H Sun Rhynolites to XT Hubs? If one is stronger, how much so would you say? I'm running the 303's right now and have not had any real problems (snapped a couple spokes on a big unexpected drop) but I'm looking for reliability. I'm thinking for loaded touring (few days on gravel) rather than hard XC use. Basically, I'm wondering if the 303's extra 4 (36h) spokes give it strength near that of a Rhynolite 32h. I know this spoke question has been discussed to death, but I have no experience with Rhynolites and don't know how strong they are. Thanks!

I'd say that the most important factor is the one that you didn't mention: the quality of the assembly.

If you assume that the assembly quality is equal, I'd pick the Rhyno Lites. The reason is superior hubs and a rim that I'm familiar with being very stout and reliable. Those Alex rims are an unknown quantity to me.

RG is spot on. Build quality is most important.

A hand built wheel is like ump-teen times stronger than a machine built wheel. I'm running a 36H rhynolite wheel to a Deore LX Disc hub and it's holding up great and I'm 450lb. That is my offroad wheel, it handles the singletrack trail that I ride, and anything goofy like stairs I might ride down. I know my spoke tension is very high though.

Awesome, I guess I'll grab a 32h Rhynolite set and see how it runs. Can't be much worse than this (probably machine-built) rim I'm currently running. We'll find out. Thanks all.
