i just got back from Barnes & Noble where I was reading in a new issue of "Pro Cycling" that in Paris Roubaix where it stated some pro teams used 25c (or 25mm?) for the cobbles...i guess that is maybe the extent of the width for more extreme pro races...
Most pros use 23c tires because they handle better, are more comfortable and have less rolling resistance than 20c
A lot of pros I know use 23's or 20's. I, personally, use 20's.

Are there any advantages to a 20c tire?

I ride 25s but I believe that, in combination with a suitable wheel, 20s are more aerodynamic. And they can generally hold more pressure.
