Question: Can a rim warp?

I had left my bike on the porch upside-down (on top of seat & handlebars) over the course of the day. When I come back home from school, I go to ride my bike and I find that I have a serverly warped rim (or tire????) I have no idea how that could of happened, it was not there before.

P.S..... It did rain that day? Could that have caused the problem. And does this mean that I am going to have to get a new rim/tire or just have me LBS fix it?

Maybe a hobo decided to take it off some sweet jumps. :D

Us Old Timer's™ call it "pretzeled". And it's usually "toast"....

That's most often caused by mistiming a jump over an obstacle, or landing a big jump incorrectly....

You mean it isn't called pretzeled anymore. I either call it that or a taco :)

I still call it pretzeled, but who am I? Just an Old Timer™

Not always. The shop might be able to re-true the rim enough to make it work.

It's pretty ******* sad when a X-mart bike can last longer than a Gary Fisher.

Not really. Don't feel like fully explaining but some parts on x-mart bikes are going to be very strong, but very very heavy.

Besides it 99% impossible for your bike to 'suddenly' get a warp. I think someone (you, friend, neighbour, brother) probably abused it and it warped after you put it on the porch. If it did just 'warp' out of nowhere then you have issues.

Also how badly warped and how long have to had the wheels. There is a setting in period where wheels may go out of true slightly and need retruing. It happens.

I've had the bike for around 2 months. And yes, it just warped over the course of 24 hours, without me being on the bike at all.

I know that nobody has been on my bike since I put it on the porch.

I'm just going to take it to the LBS hoping that they can fix it...

Sounds like you possibly hit the wheel harshly at some point and loosened the spokes. This in turn slowly warped the wheel. You should be checking spoke tension often :)

Hopefully that all..... lol. I've had bad luck with this bike.
