Hey folks,

Im trying to figure out some stuff about some old Magura Rim Brake levers. They're HS24 branded levers apparently, but I cant find much info about them on the Magura website except on the spare parts list. Im wondering what the adjustment screws actually adjust, does anyone have any ideas?

The other thing about Hayes Levers, are there any differences between hayes levers/master cylinders, so maybe the hoses could be swapped between the left/right side levers? Im guessing there probably isnt, but I dont have a set here to check.

Please note, I dont want to use the Hayes levers with the Magura brakes. These are two seperate questions. :)

Thanks for your help.

Second question first: To the best of my knowledge, Hayes uses DOT fluid and Magura uses their own mineral oil. They're incompatable and using the wrong fluid will ruin your brake system.

I'm not positive about the Magura adjustment screw. My Magura levers don't have the screw. I seem to remember that it extends into the reservoir and changes the volume so the brake acts more quickly when the lever is pulled.

The adjusters could be for reach adjustment which just adjusts how far the lever ends up from the bar when released.
Hs33 levers had another adjustment that moved the rod that pushed the piston in and out. Screw it in and it would push the piston into the leaver moving the pads closer to the rim. Screw it out and the opposite would happen. It was supposed to be used to adjust for pad wear but could be used to slightly adjust the point in the lever throw the pads hit the rim.

Actually, if you're talking about the TPA, you screw it in, and it pulles the rod out, and hence gives you more lever travel. The TPA looks like a red plastic star shape, but I think they only put it on the HS33s, and later Racelines. There is also a little grub screw (as far as I know on all Magura levers, and all brake levers for that matter) which adjusts the reach of the lever blade.
