Standing in line at the grocery store today, I noticed a headline on the cover of The Star (estimable publication that it is) proclaiming "Lance Sheryl Break Up."

Can it be true?

Will it affect LA's shot at a 7th TdF win?

Does anyone really care?

Well, I would think you could take anything that a respectable rag like The Star publishes as total truth. They haven't been sued and lost that many times for libelous reporting.

I saw that too. I just thought it was cool a cyclist made the cover of a wide circulation tabloid. How else are trailer trash going to get nudge into being cycle fans?

Just kidding... they're still together (http://www.procycling.com/news.aspx?ID=1187).

Star quotes what it describes as “a source close to Crow” telling them: "They were leading separate lives."
Well no sh** Sherlock. One generally doesn't bicycle race through rock concerts or play live music from the back of SAG wagon.

I'll be watching for that nice bike Lance gave her to show up on eBay. :)

1 -Can it be true?

2 - Will it affect LA's shot at a 7th TdF win?

3 - Does anyone really care?

1 - Maybe. Their careers are not conducive to building a relationship.

2 - No. That's not what will beat him. His age, apparent sub-par training and Eckimov's absence will beat him.

3 - No. I just want to see good racing. If the Giro d'Italia trend holds true, we're gonna see some new faces on the podium this year.

Here, I'll throw out some controvery:

The guy cheats on and then bails out on the mother of his children to go bang some moderately talented, but hot, celebrity.

Great athlete? Of course. Great person? No way.

All I know is that Lyle Lovett's music bit when he was married to Julia Roberts. Jan Ullrich is probably bumming right now. All he needs is a p.o.ed Lance.

As for LA's marital life, I don't think any of us can comment on whether he was a jerk or not. Certainly could have been, but then again perhaps not. (I've seen a lot of messed up marriages, and it wasn't always the person who cheated that I felt was "more wrong.") When he starts nailing 15yr olds, then we can all criticise him without waiting for more information.

Actually we can. :D That's the beauty of the internet and discussion forums. We are all free to throw out whatever inane, unfounded and uninformed opinion we want with complete anonymity and impunity.

Lance/Sheryl split rumours denied
5/20/2005
A tabloid magazine story suggesting the breakdown of Lance Armstrong and Shery Crow's relationship is denied by their representatives.

PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM

Lance Armstrong's personal representative, Mark Higgins, of Capital Sports Entertainment, has flatly denied a story that appeared in the American tabloid magazine Star suggesting that Lance Armstrong and his girlfriend Sheryl Crow are on the verge of splitting up. The story was repeated in the German tabloid paper Bild.

“The story is untrue,” Higgins told procycling. “Lance and Sheryl are here in Austin for the LAF Gala. Sheryl is performing at the event this evening.”

Star quotes what it describes as “a source close to Crow” telling them: "They were leading separate lives." Star also reports that Crow’s representative had denied the story.

So I agree...if Lance loses this year, it will have more to do with training, Eki and perhaps his age than relationship woes...Personally I still think he's going to pull it off...that being said Losing talented teammates has never stopped him before (see Tyler Hamilton, Roberto Heras, Levi Leipheimer, and Kevin Livingston).

A couple of people say that LA cheated on his wife, but was that ever substantiated or was it just another tabloid rumor?

I wouldn't take any stock in what their respective publicists say. After all, LA and his wife were seen at the tour in july looking like nothing was wrong than one month later, the announcement came out that they were splitting up.

Yep, the internet gives us Joe 6-packs the opportunity to communicate utter nonsense for all the world to see. So now we have the same privilege as politicians and the press --- sweeeet.

Latest rumour is that Jan Ullrich was divorced because he is gay and has the hot's for Lance. Apparently Lance also has feelings for Jan. That's the TRUW reason for his breakup with Crow....

Why do you state that he cheated on his first wife? Perhaps it was the other way around? Regardless, nobody knows with any certainty except the parties involved. My take on the split is simple. If it's true, given the problems of the 2003 Tour, it could hurt Lance in July. This is, of course, assuming that his breakup contributed to his less than spectacular win in the 2003 TdF.

However, I for one, am not betting againist him. :D

Let me see, on one hand we have Lance with money, power and fame. The three key ingredients to being a chick magnet. On the other hand, we have a women of average looks who is a mom. You make the call who is GENERALLY SPEAKING more desirable to the opposite sex.

I realize this has nothing to do with cheating and I agree nobody knows. But you can see my last post for my view on speculation.

Hmmm... personally, I think Kristin is a hottie... certainly better looking than Sheryl Crowe.

It's all speculation. Nobody but the people actually involved really knows. And why should we even care?

Hooray!!! Now Sheryl and/or Lance is all mine.

But seriously, that kinda sucks... I don't think it'll affect his TDF performance. I think pro athletes have to learn to ignore the rest of their lives in order to compete.

And considerably younger too.

I didn't realize Lance was Sheryl's Boy Toy.
