I still don't have a shipping label from Kleptonite! The first time I registered was last autumn. Some months later they sent me an e-mail saying their computer system was fouled up or some such and I had to register again. Okay. I re-regestered. This was about a month ago. Still no response.

Does anyone have an e-mail address so I can write to them and find out what is going on? I'm a patient person but this is a bit too much! Thanks.

You are in LATVIA you realize. They most likely have their home market (North America) as a priority.

Can you make overseas calls to the US? I got frustrated with the process after registering repeatedly and not hearing back; called in, and they had me sorted in minutes.

I called once, which cost me around $10. I was told to register and all would be well, as there was no problem with me being in Latvia. That was last autumn.

If you try to register again using the same email address, you should get an error that includes a reference number. If you call (or email?) with that number, they can figure out what went wrong with your initial registration.

At least, that's what happened with me! To give you an idea of how long I waited before I called in, my initial registration number was in the mid-80s. My re-registration number was well into six digits ;)

I submitted their online form dealie in late feb. NO reply yet, maybe one of these days I'll bike down to their corporate headquarters in Canton, Mass, and beat their heads in with my bicable krypto lok.

Spoof on the "Kryptonite." The klepto refers to kleptomania, or the compulsion to steal. I'm sure you've heard all about the Bic-pickable Krypto locks that were recalled.

I registered last year when the notice was first made. After many months of no response, I re-registered on their website and was emailed a shipping label within a day or two. Sent my lock in and received the replacement within a week. My suggestion is to try and go through the process again on their website.

I've just recieved an email from Kryptonite telling me that the key number I gave them is invalid. I gave them the correct number off the key to my Avenir U lock, which is listed on the Kryptonite website. Anyone else have this problem?

All of the Kryptonite serial numbers I have seen include a letter (or two or three letters) plus digits. So, you have to watch out for an "I", versus a "1" and an "O" versus a "0". On some of my old keys, the letters were worn off, as they were not stamped as deep as the numbers.

If their computer "kicks" back your serial number, send their staff a personal e-mail with every number and letter combination that might work. YOUR serial number has NO letter before or after the number, and that may be throwing off the "auto-register" computer program...but a "human" can over-ride the computer. (Except in movies...those "Star Wars" computers get mighty upitty).

It is natural to be "frustrated" during the exchange program. But, of the ten or fifteen companies that sold bike locks with "round keys", Kryptonite is the ONLY one to offer to exchange EVERY lock they ever sold, without a receipt, regardless of age. It is the most ambitious effort to satisfy customers that I know of.

What other company has ever offered "free" replacements for products that may be ten, fifteen, or twenty years old? The folks at Kryptonite are doing the right thing, even though doing the right thing may take a year or two, given the millions of these locks that are in circulation.

I thought I might be reading the key wrong, so I asked my wife for a second opinion. She agrees with me, the number is 99613. What do you think?

I put my info on their site about three days ago and got my labels in my email today. Have my package ready to return at their expense. I was quite pleased. At least so far. I assume they have to have my pkg before they'll ship my lock.

I got my replacement lock yesterday. The whole thing, from first registering on their website to getting my replacement, took about 10 days.

So it does work sometimes.. try registering again?

Well Kryptonite wrote back. The lock that I'm trying to replace is an Avenir, which is listed on there site as being produced by Kryptonite. There seems to be some confusion as to whether or not Kryptonite made this lock. One of the parts guys is going to look at a photo I've sent them. I bought the thing from a Kryptonite dealer, so I'm guessing it was made by Kryptonite. I'll have to wait and see what they say.
