Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Fair price for a used frame?

I have an 70's classic steel lugged 10 speed frame that I just stripped down and primered only to figure out that it's not gonna fit me. It's a chinese made "free spirit" with semi horizontal drop outs. What would be a fair price to ask for this frameset? I'm not looking to get rich on it, just tryin get another rider hooked!

not much at all but it all depends on you. what does it mean to you and work from there. research and the foundation begins to build.. good luck and keep riding.

If you want to get another rider hooked, then just give it away. Free Spirit was the Sears brand of dept store bikes. Some of the earlier ones were made by Austro Daimler in Austria and were pretty decent. You could get a Sears bike with full campy! :eek: However, chinese made lends itself towards bottom rung of the ole bike ladder.

My frames have been purchaced for $50.00 or less.

I had a early 60s German made sears three speed - It was quite nice, lighter than the Brit bike of the same era with a Torpedo rear hub and some alloy parts(!). It would have made a nice fixed frame - too big for me so I sold it. ($75 for the entire bike with groovy banana seat!)

I'd say $25-30 is right for that frame. Maybe $10 more if it is dead mint cosmetically.

That's what I was wondering... I saw it on CL yesterday evening. $40 seems high to me. I got a complete Shogun 12-speed with Tange tubing for $20 last week :)

FWIW, my fixie is built from a similar quality frame and is an awesome ride. So it's not like you're getting a piece of junk. Just probably no bragging rights.

I'm using this as a commuter/bar bike. I definitely don't want a bike with bragging rights for that! Plus I'd like to use my coaster brake wheel, so it won't be a fixed gear. I've already got a fixed gear as it is.

I didn't make fun of you but you obviously assumed I would so perhaps $40 was a bit much even for you to rationalize?

Hmmm... I like this area a lot! It's a fun place to live. Except for the crime and traffic.

True enough! DC does tend to get old after a while. I grew up in Maryland, which is no great shakes, and there's a natural rivalry with Virginia.

It's called buyers remorse. Couple that with two people saying that they wouldn't pay that price doesn't help any.
