This is great news for us:

The 444-mile Natchez Trace Parkway, which connects southern portions of the Mississippi River to central Tennessee, experienced its heaviest use from 1785 to 1820 by the “Kaintuck" boatmen who floated the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to markets in Natchez and New Orleans. The weary boatmen would sell their cargo at markets, dismantle their boats, sell the lumber and begin the often deadly trek back north on foot.

This weekend, the final two portions, totaling about 21 miles of the National Scenic Byway near Jackson and Natchez, are opening to travelers once again, allowing them to enjoy the full length of the byway by driving, hiking, biking and horseback riding.

Ceremonies Saturday celebrate the completion of the two-lane road, which began in 1938 and roughly follows the original trail.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks for the update! I have been thinking about riding this route, ever since driving along a portion of it a few years ago.

I just finished riding the Trace with 3 friends and we rode from Jackson to Nashville. Plan on riding the part that was just completed. Great place to ride. Email if you have any questions. :D

Great news about the Trace! Which 100-150 mile segment of the Trace would you suggest for a newbie to bike touring who only has 3 days to spare?
