Touring - Toronto to Port Hope: Any suggestions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've got a couple of days off this week and thought I'd bike from Toronto to Port Hope. That will complete the section of the Waterfront Trail from Kingston to Fort Erie (I've been doing it in bits and pieces).

I know there is a nasty bit* on Kingston Road on the eastern border of Toronto, but are there other nasty bits I should be aware of?

*Nasty bits, for those unfamiliar with the jargon, are spots where you are forced to cycle on a busy roadway without any type of separation such as bike lane, where the speed the other vehicles is significantly greater than your speed.

Also, I'm stealth camping so I'm looking for advice on nice quiet spots along the way. I especially appreciate spots close to brew pubs, but this may be too much to ask or imagine.

Pretty much most of Highway 2 is "nasty bits". Brian Hedney's Toronto to Montreal (http://www.hedney.com/waterfront.htm) tour might be of help. Or get one of the map books from Ontario Waterfront Trail (http://www.waterfronttrail.org/). Good luck on finding locations for stealth camping since this is a heavily built up area (lots of small towns back to back). Whenever I've done this area (Toronto-Montreal, Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal, Toronto-Kingston) I've stayed at provincial campgrounds (might be an issue this year with a potential strike).

Allan accidentally posted a link to the "Edit page" form for his journal, which won't work for anybody but him. Here's the correct link to his journal:
