From about 1970 to 1975, bike production in the USA averaged more than ten million bikes a year. Last year, the number of bikes made in the USA was waaay less than one million bikes. Only Trek and Cannondale make large numbers of bikes in America. Other America bike builders are custom shops, or small volume shops.

Today, the bikes that you see with "American" names such as Schwinn are NOT "made in America". Americans making fifteen bucks an hour can NOT compete with workers paid fifteen cents an hour in communist China. A bike that Wal-Mart buys in communist China at a wholesale price of $55 contains about $50 worth of parts. Not much room for paying the guy who built the bike.

So, if you buy a new bike that costs less than $1,000, odds are, it was NOT made in America, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, or any other nation where bike builders are paid a decent living wage.
