joe friel's cyclist's training bible is thought to be one of the best and most flexiable training program outlines available.

Joe Friel's book is a good start. But, eventually, you have to structure your plan based on your work schedule and fitness level.

Which is why I love Fred Matheny's book on Beginning Bicycle Racing. I have the 1983 edition.
