Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Oh how I hate moderators, it's been fun, enjoy!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ebbtide - have you tried working with the moderator(s) that have brought you to this decision? Just want to check. Hate to see people leave, but it is your choice.

Well, I wanted it in the appropriate forum, rather than hidden/simmering in P n R.
It is, I suppose, ironical.

If P&R participants didn't want the abuse, they would stop logging in...I think P&R is mostly tongue-in-cheek AND self-policing; furthermore, IMO, unless it's a really SPECIAL occassion, the small group of sadists and masochists who log onto P&R don't need a BABYSITTER. These old threads were DEAD, why drag them back up just to close them and NANNY us? :(

PS - If it's 'cause sum thread was moved to P&R from another forum, and some newbie was SHOCKED, just shocked by what they found in P&R, and they tattled, well that person can just BURN IN HELL. :)

Actually, they were revived before I changed the title.

Otherwise I wouldn't have noticed them.

Just because PnR is treated by some as their private club, doesn't mean it needs to be.

edit: Also, I noticed ebbtide edited his post to reference my moving the thread.
But I think it is appropriate. :)

No, the whole P&R section is ironical.

Maybe it does deserve a bit more moderation, since I am failing to see this self-policing that is being described. Thanks for the heads-up! :)

Why not just mind your own business until one us "ironical" fellers complains to you specifically? Your talents are better suited to mediate the never-ending "Hipsters Vs. Messengers" debates in the fixie forum anyway.

So FXJohn was so bored today that he dredged all those dead threads up...and brought the man down on us. Thanks a lot, John!

The rest of the subforums are just too crowded these days, with so many noobs asking the same old questions about the same old boring *****; and it's not like the fixie forum isn't a private club, full of trendy posers and their hipster friends carrying on with their insider jokes...and the same could probably be said for several of the other subforums...

I'm glad there's all this renewed interest in bicycling and the forums are doing well and all, but P&R is just the subforum that appeals to me...and for the faint-of-heart or the thin-of-skin, there's a warning posted on the door. And we don't need no fixie trash tellin' us how to wear our stinkin' badges. ;)

Hate to see you go. You were one of about three in here that made PandR worth checking in on. Washed Up and FxJohn good luck dealing with these hardcore libs and whackos. I am completely finished with lectures in school, so I really dont have that part of my day to totally waste anymore. I am out suckas!

First off, sometimes the moderators get a little wild and do stuff because they can, not because they should. The P&R moderates its self, unless some guy pisses off everyone and complaints follow. Then some action should be taken, otherwise that forum tends to be somewhat volatile by the nature of its subjects and everyone is OK with that.

The apparant rapid nature of the movement tends to indicate that the mod is "looking" aftrer a specific poster, not to cool.

165, Kris has a point about the hipsters/poseurs in the fixed/single forum. I have been riding bikes longer than most of those guys have been alive, built and ridden fixed and single longer than most of them. Did it before it was the "in" thing. And I am a better mechanic than any of them(Cocky, yes. But I am sure of my statement) Do I act like my superior years and knowledge are big sh1t on that forum? No. Do they treat everyone that has not posted consistently about every aspect of Chrome v/s Dag bags for the last two years like a fcking fool? Yes they do. They are a lot harsher on newbs than anyone in P&R, yet there does not seem to be much except self mod there. I would like to be a part of that forum but so many guys there make you feel like the new guy at jr. high. I got no time for that sh1t.

Do I care if what I say gets a hold or a ban? No. There are enough holes posting BS and getting away with it with nothing done to impede it what difference would it make? The petty stuff here has lately been on the increase. There are a bunch of ignorant tools talking junk about the field. No Mods there. A couple of guys making the newbs in Mechanics feel like idiots while not even helping them with their question. No Mods there. Fixed & Single, like Jr. High lunch, of course. Haven't been to MTB or BMX in a long time because this crap never stops there.

I come to the P&R section to enjoy the combat. It's very name indicates there will be hate and discontent. I stay away from the biking sections because there should not be hate and discontent, but there is. The kicker for me was a helmet debate a few months ago.

I think we all need to get away from here for awhile, go for a long ride, go for several long rides. People need to stop getting their panties all twisted up. A moderator closed a few old threads, and moved ones that really didn't belong in the P&R forum, it is our job as moderators to uphold the rules, close threads that are old or move topics that don't belong in a certain forum.

Rob,
Man I am so stupid, Iwas just about to ask "whats the P & R", when I scrawled down the forum I found that it was the Politics and Religion" section of the forum,, see I have never visited that section, and I am still standing on solid grounds.

If something needs addressing why don't you give us a heads up? That's what the 'spam' link is for.
You might want to check out the mountain bike section again, it seems pretty chill lately...and the BMX...well we _do_ need assistance there from someone who can stomach it! :)

Maybe we should address the issues and resolve the conflict, that would be the adult thing to do. After all, we are all adults here.... aren't we? Or is it just too easy to 'go for a ride' and turn our collective backs on the situation, to stick our heads in the sand and hope it will go away. This is NOT doing a job, but rather hoping the job 'does' itself.

Yeah things get wild and wolly in P&R, they're controversial subjects. What did you expect Wednesday night prayer meeting and bible study? As a whole we police ourselves quite nicely in there. If someone gets out of hand usually they get a good verbal reprimand from the community at large. In rare instances someone should and does blow the 'Mod whistle' for a clean up-on aisle five. Why clean up a mess that only exists in your mind?

Give someone a bit of power (Just like the rent a cop at the mall) and BAM... right to their head it goes!
Because you can, doesn't mean you have to.

This is quite enough.

As I stated to the other mods, I find it highly inappropriate when people are openly hostile towards others and create threads specificially to foster these negative attitudes. So here are the forum guidelines as to why this thread is about to be closed: http://www.bikeforums.net/faq.php?faq=basic_guidelines#faq_harrassment.

Kindly take the time to read the forum guidelines with regards to Harrassment and Disruption.

Regardless of what members may think, this IS a private forum. Joe Gardner created moderator positions to address violations to the forum guidelines and to maintain order. If there are forum guidelines violated or disorder created, we step in and take corrective action. And like it or not, there are simply going to be some actions that members are not privvy to. Again, this IS a private forum, and this is how things are done. Attempting to undermine the moderator roles/actions/movements are inappropriate and unwarranted. In the future, if you have problems with moderators, or even with other members, drop any moderator a PM and we will address the issue privately.

As far as explanations, refer to the forum guidelines. If you are confused as to how to interpret the forum guidelines, drop a PM to a moderator. Any moderator. We are versed with the full meanings of the guidelines and will be happy to take you through them should you feel that something we've done is not in compliance with the forum guidelines.

Very soon, we will be addessing each of the members, as we see that there is much work that needs to be done to clean up these forums. We will release our resolutions in the News and Announcement forums as our options as to what we can do to improve the site become clear, and we will do it as expeditiously as possible.

On behalf of the Moderator Team, we thank you for your consideration, suggestions, and patience as we deal with these matters.
